4th Grade Geometric String Art


Students worked through a design process on paper to create several string art designs. Their design required the use of 16 holes on a circular shape. The goal was to create a design where colors and strings crossed in a visually appealing way.


·      I can create a visually appealing cardboard frame using a paint scraping technique.
·      I can thread and tie a needle on a piece of string.
·      I can successfully complete my design that I planned for.
·      I can persevere through challenges.
·      I can reflect on my artistic process.

5th Grade Zentangle Art

Students participated in this relaxing art activity while practicing use of pattern, line, shape, contrast and space. Doodling in this way calms the nervous system and helps focus.

5th Grade Soft Sculptures

Artists were introduced to soft sculpture as a medium. Students designed their own pattern, cut out pieces, embellished them and learned how to use three different kinds of stitches to sew their sculpture together.

5th Grade Gelli Plate Printmaking

Students learned how to pull layered monoprints using a printing plate called a Gelli Plate. These plates were purchased with money earned from the Art to Remember fundraiser. Thank you for your support!







After completing 3 prints, students added collage elements to finish their work. The prints were mounted on a frame to create a unified triptych art piece.

Shelter Animal Portrait

Bringing awareness to shelter animals with our art and community service!



In this cross curricular project, students selected an animals from a local animal shelter. In art class, students learned how to draw their animal subject accurately using shapes. Then, with close observation of a photograph, students painted their furry friends practicing color mixing and created a variety of neutral values, tints, tones and shades. we created implied textures for the fur and painted a vibrant background hue. In the classroom, students used their persuasive writing skills to write a letter to persuade someone to adopt their animal. On community service day, students worked to created a variety of items like dog treats and toys for animal shelters. This project shed light on the importance of adopting animals in shelters who need loving homes.

Sumi-e Brush Painting Book




Using Sumi-e Technique, India Ink and Bamboo Brushes
Students learned about the rich history of Chinese brush painting and practiced a variety of techniques using a bamboo brush and ink.

I can create the illusion of space in an artwork by:

·    Creating foreground, middleground and background.
·    Using overlapping throughout the work.
·    Using a variety of values (light to dark to create atmospheric perspective.)
·    Using more detail in the foreground.
·    Appropriately placing objects on the surface.
·    Using larger objects in the foreground and smaller objects in the background.
